Say anything, save everything
If we say nothing this love will die
Give me just one word, you can scream or whisper
If you want to stay with me, tell me why
Say anything

Self Help Books - Do They Help?
As someone who has viewed The Secret, and given it much consideration, I’d like to propose a “flipside” that seems un-mentioned (or perhaps I missed it in the midst of all the flying fur):
Instead of everybody focusing on whether the “positive thinking” aspect works, why not turn it around and examine it from the perspective of the effects of “negative thinking”?

Researchers Say Happiness in Old Age Not Linked to Lifelong Intelligence
It’s an older article, and short, but it got me thinking. Particularly the following bit:
Although a relationship between happiness and intelligence may have been expected because intelligence is highly valued by society, researchers say that intelligence has its plusses as well as its minuses… For example, higher intelligence may lead to greater achievement, but it also brings with it greater awareness of alternatives, which may lead to frustration.

Banks await regulations on US Internet betting ban
The first thing I want to know is how the recreational spending of a private citizen’s hard-earned cash became the business of the federal government. Let’s see here…. were any minors harmed or exploited in an online gambling transaction? No. Was anybody killed? No. Did anyone go out and mug a little old lady just so they could get another $5 fix? No. Now somewhere or another, someone will argue that other crimes may have been committed to fund the gambling habits of those prone to addictive behaviour. This is true. I argue that such crimes would also be committed by someone who was addicted to any other substance or activity… Want to take a guess at how many embezzlers are doing it because they are hooked on a member of the opposite sex? Let’s make federal laws against mating and dating, too, while we’re at it… just to keep all the bases covered. (That will also help handle those “pesky” gays, and anybody with a taste for a kink, all in one fell swoop.)

Airplanes
Take you away again
Are you flying
Above where we live
Then I look up
A glare in my eyes
Are you having
Regrets about last night
I’m not, but I like rivers that
Rush in
So then I dove in
Is there trouble ahead
For you, the acrobat
I won’t push you
Unless you have a net
You say the word you know
I will find you
Or if you need some time
I don’t mind
I don’t hold on to the
Tail of your kite
I’m not like the girls
That you’ve known
But I believe I’m worth
Coming home to
Kiss away night
This girl only sleeps with
Butterflies
With butterflies
So go on and fly then
Boy
Balloons look good
From on the ground
I fear with
Pins and needles around
We may fall then stumble
Upon a carousel
It could take us
Anywhere
You say the word you know
I will find you
Or if you need some time
I don’t mind
I don’t hold on to the
Tail of your kite
I’m not like the girls
That you’ve known
But I believe I’m worth
Coming home to
Kiss her, waiting by this girl
This girl
You say the word you know
I will find you
Or if you need some time
I don’t mind
I don’t hold on to the
Tail of your kite
I’m not like the girls
That you’ve known
But I believe I’m worth
Coming home to
Kiss away night
This girl only sleeps with
Butterflies
With butterflies
With butterflies
So go on and fly
Boy

I picked up the keys on Tuesday - two days earlier than promised. Moved the first load of stuff that night. More stuff Wednesday. Thursday was a U-Haul and my friends Sue and Vic. Friday was help from the father of one of my daughter’s friends. Saturday was unpacking, putting away, and Canada Day celebrations. Sunday was unpacking and putting away. Monday was trying to get settled in. Tuesday was updating all the important people (immigration, Canada Revenue, etc) with the new address. Yesterday was paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. Today is resumed internet access - YAY!

Yesterday, some very positive things happened.
First:
My open work visa arrived in the mail. Not only does this mean I can now seek employment with any entity I choose without having to jump through all the hoops, it also means I am good to stay in Canada for another year while I finish sorting out this immigration stuff. Several birds with one stone.
Second:

So, apparently, I’m not the only one who thinks AOL is slowly going down the drain.
WTF. More reasons why the idea of returning to the US disturbs me. There’s something about the idea of women being reduced back to cattle for breeding that infuriates me, regardless of my own personal views on abortion itself.
