This might piss off a few people, but I actually agree with you to a certain extent. I think the biggest problem in that respect is that sex offenses committed against minors are considered some of the most heinous offenses possible, and therefore even the ACLU does not necessarily want its name associated with that sticky wicket.

I also feel there is a certain burden upon society to educate itself regarding sex offenses overall. Not all sex offenses involve raping, molesting, or otherwise taking unfair advantage of another human being. Engaging in congress with a very willing call girl is a sex offense throughout most of the US, as is exposing one's self publically in a bar while drunk. In some places, it is a sex offense to engage in mutually consensual oral sex if the parties are not married to one another. And in many places, an age difference of a single year can mean the difference between legal intercourse and a statutory rape charge. Unfortunately, too many people simply see the label "sex offender", and don't bother looking beyond that to learn the specific details before they judge a person.

(By the way, just to cover my own derriere here, I am not advocating or condoning any acts involving call girls, public nudity, or individuals technically just under the age of consent. I am especially not advocating or condoning engaging in oral sex and public nudity with a call girl who is technically just under the age of consent. Bad legal things might happen to you if you do so. Rednecks might happen to you, also.)

Um, I hear all the time about how convicted child molesters and pedophiles are having their civil rights violated, what with being on all kinds of publicly available lists, and having to publish their home addresses and stuff, and then getting beaten up by rednecks and gang members who are just itching to take out their hostility and hatred on people that society doesn't give a shit about. It used to be gay people, now it's pedophiles. One would think that the ACLU would try to get involved to protect the rights of pedophiles who've served their jail time, but are still being treated like menaces to society.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I haven't updated in something like 10 days. I've been suffering from terminal burnout (pun intended). So sue me. Anyway, I'm back. The usual BS is going on in the world. SSDD. If you truly don't...
