100 Things - 2004

(Just a word of caution: This list was compiled in the summer of 2004, and is now somewhat outdated. I’ll get around to either editing it or posting an updated list sometime soon.)

  1. I’m married.
  2. To my second husband.
  3. For a little over a year now.
  4. But we’ve been together for over two years.
  5. Which means he’s lasted longer than the first one technically did.
  6. Because the first husband and I were seperated before our first anniversary.
  7. And we filed for a divorce before our second.
  8. Did you know a “quick” no-contest divorce can take a year or more to process? I didn’t. I do now!
  9. My new husband is the love of my life.
  10. He’s also the person who makes me laugh the most.
  11. I grew up in the military.
  12. I’ve visited every US state at least once, except Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and California.
  13. I’ve lived in Alabama.
  14. And Florida.
  15. And New York.
  16. And Connecticut.
  17. And Washington.
  18. And Georgia.
  19. And Idaho.
  20. More than a dozen different schools can claim me as alumni.
  21. I have this weird passion for forensics shows, far beyond just CSI.
  22. Neil Gaiman: Is there any finer graphic novelist / comic book author in the known universe?
  23. I admit it - I liked Poison… and Warrant… and Cinderella… and I still do.
  24. But I’m also a Pink Floyd fanatic. Go figure.
  25. College major: Business Admin and CIS.
  26. But that changed and became: English and Communications, with minors in Humanities and Rhetoric.
  27. I’ve been screwing around with computers since I was 8.
  28. My first computer was a Commodore 64 with a cassette tape deck for a hard drive.
  29. I even was an occasional Co-SysOp back in the days when the BBS was king and the closest thing to the Internet was FidoNet.
  30. My family refused to take pictures of me when I was 16… because I had a purple crewcut.
  31. My favourite food is maki sushi - preferably California and Spicy Shrimp rolls.
  32. But I also love lasagna.
  33. And fresh berries with cream.
  34. And clover honey.
  35. And All-Dressed flavoured potato chips.
  36. And extra-raisin raisin bran.
  37. Which is all well and good, except for one thing: I have moderately nasty food issues.
  38. Food scares me…
  39. Because I’m terrified of growing obese.
  40. It stems from growing up in a family of obese individuals.
  41. I, like many Internet denizens, am a night person.
  42. Been that way all of my life.
  43. Probably due to heredity, as both of my DNA donors are also certifiable certified night people.
  44. But I have a pet theory that it results from having been born at night.
  45. I have lots of pet theories.
  46. Yes, many of them relate to conspiracies.
  47. No, I don’t belong to a militia.
  48. But I have known members of militias… odd folks, they are.
  49. I’ve known lots of odd people, in general, but very few “normal” ones.
  50. One pet theory is that “normal” people are the true oddballs of the world.
  51. Extremely myopic.
  52. Contact lenses and spectacles, because a woman should have freedom of choice.
  53. I prefer contacts, though…
  54. …because they show off my blue eyes…
  55. …and they draw less attention to the freckles across my nose.
  56. Yes, I’m tattooed.
  57. Three times, four if you count the one covered up.
  58. No longer pierced, except for the ears.
  59. Plenty of scars…
  60. …earned the hard way, not just for decoration.
  61. Favourite book : probably Farewell To Arms by Hemingway
  62. Favourite place : the Emerald Coast of Florida, right around 7-8 AM
  63. Favourite person : my husband or all of my kids, depending on who has been acting snotty most recently
  64. First vehicle : 1976 Ford Maverick four door, red and tan
  65. First job : general all-purpose part-time gopher at a jewelry store
  66. Favourite items of clothing : toss up between silk bikini panties, boot cut jeans, or my wine and black corset
  67. Favourite hair colour : Hawaiian Punch red
  68. Favourite animal : cats, because they are so bloody intelligent and independent
  69. Favourite artist : Escher
  70. Favourite magazine : UTNE, at the moment
  71. I’m convinced that books are a godsend, second only to music in the artistic spectrum.
  72. Such being the case, I am one of the collaborators at Book Fetish.
  73. I’m so enamored with words that I do a fair bit of writing when I have the chance.
  74. Yes, crappy poetry.
  75. But also short stories, songs, essays, and novellas.
  76. Yes, a few small pieces have been published through the years.
  77. No, I cannot direct you to them as they were all through independent venues that are now completely defunct. (Ahh, the capricious nature of independent media).
  78. Interestingly enough, a few university professors have highly recommended that I write a book.
  79. More specifically, an autobiography.
  80. Sadly enough, that will most likely never happen - because autobiographies of everyday people generally undersell unless there is a gimmick (Xaviera Hollander, you go girl!).
  81. Death penalty? Yes, provided DNA has ruled out exoneration.
  82. Socialized healthcare? Yes.
  83. Higher taxes? No, but sometimes they are justified.
  84. Welfare reform? Reform welfare reform.
  85. GM Foods? Dear God, NO.
  86. Decriminalize marijuana? The sooner, the better.
  87. MP3s and File Sharing? Use it, don’t try to squash it.
  88. Gene therapy? Absolutely NOT.
  89. Mandatory childbirth limitations? Definitely.
  90. Voluntary euthanasia? 100%, IF thorough counseling is provided.
  91. Ever try to get by on less than 1600 calories per day? I do it pretty regularly.
  92. Yet, confoundingly enough, rarely do I lose any weight.
  93. I have a pet plant.
  94. Its name is Marvin.
  95. Marvin’s more entertaining than the dairy cows that occasionally roam our front lawn.
  96. No, I never finished high school - only the 9th grade.
  97. But I did take my GED and passed it with a near perfect score.
  98. Promptly followed by a 28 composite on the ACT.
  99. Which earned me a full-tuition academic scholarship to college.
  100. One of these days I’ll actually get around to getting that degree already.
