100 Things - 2004
August 6, 2007 by J.
(Just a word of caution: This list was compiled in the summer of 2004, and is now somewhat outdated. I’ll get around to either editing it or posting an updated list sometime soon.)
- I’m married.
- To my second husband.
- For a little over a year now.
- But we’ve been together for over two years.
- Which means he’s lasted longer than the first one technically did.
- Because the first husband and I were seperated before our first anniversary.
- And we filed for a divorce before our second.
- Did you know a “quick” no-contest divorce can take a year or more to process? I didn’t. I do now!
- My new husband is the love of my life.
- He’s also the person who makes me laugh the most.
- I grew up in the military.
- I’ve visited every US state at least once, except Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and California.
- I’ve lived in Alabama.
- And Florida.
- And New York.
- And Connecticut.
- And Washington.
- And Georgia.
- And Idaho.
- More than a dozen different schools can claim me as alumni.
- I have this weird passion for forensics shows, far beyond just CSI.
- Neil Gaiman: Is there any finer graphic novelist / comic book author in the known universe?
- I admit it - I liked Poison… and Warrant… and Cinderella… and I still do.
- But I’m also a Pink Floyd fanatic. Go figure.
- College major: Business Admin and CIS.
- But that changed and became: English and Communications, with minors in Humanities and Rhetoric.
- I’ve been screwing around with computers since I was 8.
- My first computer was a Commodore 64 with a cassette tape deck for a hard drive.
- I even was an occasional Co-SysOp back in the days when the BBS was king and the closest thing to the Internet was FidoNet.
- My family refused to take pictures of me when I was 16… because I had a purple crewcut.
- My favourite food is maki sushi - preferably California and Spicy Shrimp rolls.
- But I also love lasagna.
- And fresh berries with cream.
- And clover honey.
- And All-Dressed flavoured potato chips.
- And extra-raisin raisin bran.
- Which is all well and good, except for one thing: I have moderately nasty food issues.
- Food scares me…
- Because I’m terrified of growing obese.
- It stems from growing up in a family of obese individuals.
- I, like many Internet denizens, am a night person.
- Been that way all of my life.
- Probably due to heredity, as both of my DNA donors are also
certifiablecertified night people. - But I have a pet theory that it results from having been born at night.
- I have lots of pet theories.
- Yes, many of them relate to conspiracies.
- No, I don’t belong to a militia.
- But I have known members of militias… odd folks, they are.
- I’ve known lots of odd people, in general, but very few “normal” ones.
- One pet theory is that “normal” people are the true oddballs of the world.
- Extremely myopic.
- Contact lenses and spectacles, because a woman should have freedom of choice.
- I prefer contacts, though…
- …because they show off my blue eyes…
- …and they draw less attention to the freckles across my nose.
- Yes, I’m tattooed.
- Three times, four if you count the one covered up.
- No longer pierced, except for the ears.
- Plenty of scars…
- …earned the hard way, not just for decoration.
- Favourite book : probably Farewell To Arms by Hemingway
- Favourite place : the Emerald Coast of Florida, right around 7-8 AM
- Favourite person : my husband or all of my kids, depending on who has been acting snotty most recently
- First vehicle : 1976 Ford Maverick four door, red and tan
- First job : general all-purpose part-time gopher at a jewelry store
- Favourite items of clothing : toss up between silk bikini panties, boot cut jeans, or my wine and black corset
- Favourite hair colour : Hawaiian Punch red
- Favourite animal : cats, because they are so bloody intelligent and independent
- Favourite artist : Escher
- Favourite magazine : UTNE, at the moment
- I’m convinced that books are a godsend, second only to music in the artistic spectrum.
- Such being the case, I am one of the collaborators at Book Fetish.
- I’m so enamored with words that I do a fair bit of writing when I have the chance.
- Yes, crappy poetry.
- But also short stories, songs, essays, and novellas.
- Yes, a few small pieces have been published through the years.
- No, I cannot direct you to them as they were all through independent venues that are now completely defunct. (Ahh, the capricious nature of independent media).
- Interestingly enough, a few university professors have highly recommended that I write a book.
- More specifically, an autobiography.
- Sadly enough, that will most likely never happen - because autobiographies of everyday people generally undersell unless there is a gimmick (Xaviera Hollander, you go girl!).
- Death penalty? Yes, provided DNA has ruled out exoneration.
- Socialized healthcare? Yes.
- Higher taxes? No, but sometimes they are justified.
- Welfare reform? Reform welfare reform.
- GM Foods? Dear God, NO.
- Decriminalize marijuana? The sooner, the better.
- MP3s and File Sharing? Use it, don’t try to squash it.
- Gene therapy? Absolutely NOT.
- Mandatory childbirth limitations? Definitely.
- Voluntary euthanasia? 100%, IF thorough counseling is provided.
- Ever try to get by on less than 1600 calories per day? I do it pretty regularly.
- Yet, confoundingly enough, rarely do I lose any weight.
- I have a pet plant.
- Its name is Marvin.
- Marvin’s more entertaining than the dairy cows that occasionally roam our front lawn.
- No, I never finished high school - only the 9th grade.
- But I did take my GED and passed it with a near perfect score.
- Promptly followed by a 28 composite on the ACT.
- Which earned me a full-tuition academic scholarship to college.
- One of these days I’ll actually get around to getting that degree already.
